AND NOW PRESENTING…JDWL

01 — (About)

Julien de PaulWebster Lyons

Presented in frames

I am acting.

Not pretending. Not performing. Presenting… Moving… Sitting… Watching… Eating… Fucking… Building… Acting—with intention, with purpose, with fervor.

I am interested in the spectacle of being human, but perhaps even more interested in the person behind the spectacle. The profound, silent moments too large for a person to voice. What makes us do what we do? What do we inherit? What do we reject? What embarrasses us? What excites us? What do we become when nobody is watching? And, perhaps most importantly—what are we building with all of it?

I am a producer, storyteller, media maker, and professional overthinker. I make things because the root origin, the mechanics of a thing, is how I think.

Conversations, contradictions, art, partnerships, ideas, experiences—each one is another opportunity to ask better questions and arrive at the best state:

The person who can remember every step on the ascent to his successes. Not only the beautiful ones, but the awkward ones, the humiliating ones, the mistakes, the questionable decisions. The things we did, didn't do, should have done, or wish we hadn't.

I am interested in what happens when we stop treating those things as shame and start treating them as composition.

Because what is the point of surviving something if you reject what it taught you?

I like beauty. I like the simplicity behind beauty, the beauty found within the simple, and the kind of beauty that only follows an emotional, destructive event. I like things that have been considered. I ask the things that haven't been considered.

I like people who care enough to make the extra decision, and those who are too tired to care about it. My partnerships, my art, my presence, my energy are extensions of a man whose silent stare scream:

…don't be a shit.

Piss in the cup. The urine? A refreshing antioxidant. The cup? Hand-shaped using the finest material. Package it. Put a bow on the bitch. And then deliver it exactly as it is, clearly labeled:

THIS. THIS IS URINE.

Just… be, well. Be you, be present, and be aware of your surroundings and the people around you. The best version of this world consists of the best version of each thing active within it.

So, I believe no one should ever discredit their participation, because the one version of you or me is important.

People do not always like artists. I think that's the point. I want to provoke, enthrall, and create something so considered it becomes a reference—the thing, the moment, that invites you to feel the particularity of your own idiosyncrasies. But feeling is not the end of the experience. It is something to be engaged with care, held with grace, understood with curiosity, and carried responsibly into whatever action comes next.

I don't want to tell anyone what to live. I want to make something that encourages a person to confidently choose a life with an identifiable nature.

Go buy that thing. Go to that place. Go. Do.

Human. Curious. Tired. Always growing and always teaching. I understand that my LEGACY does not end with the memory of who I was or what I did. It lives in the actions of future generations directly impacted and influenced by what I taught them.

My success is mine.

But the ascension? That's the path. The path is something another person can choose to follow—or not. And perhaps that is the responsibility of building anything meant to last: to make certain the structure is strong enough for someone else to stand inside it.

I trust my structure to be securely grounded. I trust it to hold. I trust it to be capable of housing a city.

What am I building? What am I forming? Where am I going, you ask? Who knows?

But for now—

I write. I watch. I wait.

And now—

02 — A Conversation Series

Safer Stranger

Safer Stranger — visit saferstranger.com

Safer Stranger is an unscripted episodic conversation series where two strangers share a piece of candy and uncover the extraordinary stories, perspectives, and shared humanity that emerge when unfamiliarity gives way to honesty.

03 — Featured Project

Pre-Production

Street Thang

Chicago. The sweltering summer of 1998, against the backdrop of a final championship run. An intimate, dramatic Black-led feature rooted in Bronzeville’s emotional and social reality — a story of desire, identity, and the complex web of relationships that hold a life together.

At its center: Tyrone and Bishop — two adult Black men shaped by longing, secrecy, family pressure, and the space between private intimacy and public performance.

In Development

Indigo

A prestige drama centered on identity under pressure. Esty has built a life that can no longer contain what she knows.

Indigo probes the devastating gap between a constructed life and the truths that can no longer be concealed — behavior, composure, concealment, and the beginning of fracture.

Unscripted Series — In Development

Somewhere between Hollywood and the Pacific Ocean, Julien de Paul Webster Lyons is sleeping on Lifeguard Tower 25 while building the creative life he came to Los Angeles to make. Working hospitality, developing projects, producing Safer Stranger, dating, and moving through an expanding network of artists, friends, strangers, and potential collaborators, Julien is not waiting to be rescued. He is attempting to construct a future in real time—one connection, one opportunity, and one unexpected turn at a time.

What happens when a person refuses to let his immediate circumstances define the scale of his life?
